China Gets Early Dibs On 2020 Skoda Superb Facelift

Officially, Skoda doesn’t yet want us to know what their 2020 Superb facelift model looks like without any camouflage or tricky bodywork. However, the cat has been out of the bag since January when the updated saloon leaked on a number of Chinese websites.

Now, thanks to Xcar, we also know more about its engine range and spec sheet as far as the Chinese market is concerned. As expected, we’re dealing with a more modern product, which has grown ever so slightly in size.

Bigger, but only on the outside

The 2020 facelifted Skoda Superb has reportedly grown an extra 8 mm (0.3 inches) in length and 1 mm (0.04 inches) in width, simply due to its updated styling. Its wheelbase has remained the same, unlike the design of the front and rear fascia.

The headlights are sharper (thinner) and feature LED technology as standard. The grille is more pronounced and has a thicker upper edge. The front bumper has also been redesigned, as have the taillights, which are now bound by a horizontal chrome strip. Other exterior changes include the revised rear bumper and the absence of the Skoda logo from the trunk lid – replaced instead with Skoda lettering.

As for performance, the Superb will be equipped with 1.4T and 2.0T petrol engines in China, with the former producing 150 PS (148 HP) and the latter either 186 PS (183 HP) or 220 PS (217 HP), depending on which version you choose. The transmission of choice should continue to be a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Skoda will unveil the 2020 Superb facelift this Thursday, May 23.
