2019 Nissan Leaf Finally Hits Australia In Single Trim Level

The Nissan Leaf has finally launched in Australia priced at $49,990 AUD ($34,853) plus on-road costs.

Like the Leaf sold elsewhere around the world, the car sold in Australia comes outfitted with a 40 kWh battery pack and an electric motor pumping out 110 kW (147 hp) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Under the European WLTP combined cycle, the 2019 Leaf has a range of 270 km (167 miles) and considering that most city-based Australians drive just 38 km a day, that should be more than enough.

The battery takes approximately 7.5 hours to charge via a 7 kW home charger – which drops dramatically to about 60 minutes for an 80 per cent charge when the EV is plugged into a CHAdeMO rapid charger.

Australia is lagging behind many other countries when it comes to electric car charging stations. With this in mind, Nissan has formed partnerships with JET Charge and Chargefox, with the latter planning to have over 100 fast DC chargers deployed by the end of the year across the country.

Australian buyers looking to pick up a 2019 Leaf will have the option of six different colors; Arctic White, Ivory Pearl, Magnetic Red, Pearl Black, Platinum, and Gun Metallic.

The new Leaf will be sold locally in a single high-spec grade which comes complete with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, a 7-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display, satellite navigation, a heated steering wheel, and heated front and rear leather-accented seats.

Among the safety features included as standard are Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Lane Intervention, and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning. There is also an Intelligent Around-View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Driver Alert, and front and rear parking sensors.

The new Nissan Leaf will land in Australian dealerships on August 1.
