Honda Bumps Civic Type R Starting Price To $37,230 For 2020

The starting price for the 2020 Honda Civic Type R has jumped to $37,230 in the United States.

The Civic Type R first landed on U.S. shores in the middle of 2017 with a starting price of $34,775, representing back then great value.

However, that price has slowly increased through the 2018 and 2019 model years and for 2020, is up $610 from the $36,620 MSRP which Honda announced for the 2019 model back in January.

While customers may be displeased to see the car manufacturer slowly increasing prices for the Civic Type R, it still represents great value, as Motor Trend notes.

The 2019 Subaru WRX STI starts at $37,480 while the Volkswagen Golf R runs customers a minimum of $41,290. Admittedly, both of this models come with trick all-wheel drive systems but an argument can be made that the Civic Type R, complete with its advanced front-wheel drive system, is actually the more enjoyable car to drive.

It doesn’t appear as though the Japanese hot hatch actually receives any updates for the 2020 model year, which is a tad disappointing. When Honda increased the price of the 2019 model by $1000 over the 2018 car, it did roll out an updated infotainment system complete with physical buttons and a volume knob. Additionally, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto was added as standard.

Honda’s exciting 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found beneath the skin of the Civic Type R continues to offer up 306 hp and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque funneled through a six-speed manual transmission.
