Can The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Outperform The Aventador SV?

The Aventador SV once sat proudly at the top of Lamborghini’s range, but now it is no longer the quickest version available as it’s been superseded by the SVJ.

Adding insult to injury (figuratively speaking, of course…), its baby brother, the Huracan Performante, might actually pose a much more serious threat than one would imagine.

Eager to see how the two stripped-down, track-focused variants of the the Aventador and Huracan compare, CarWow put the two together for a series of performance tests.

Powering the Huracan Performante is a naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V10 pumping out an impressive 631 HP and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. Factor in its total weight of 3,429 lbs (1555 kg), and it’s not hard to believe Lamborghini’s claim that it will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds. By comparison, the Aventador SV has a huge 6.5-liter V12 with 740 HP and 509 lb-ft (690), but is quite a bit heavier than its smaller sibling.

The first test is a drag race from a standing start – or, rather, two. Both times, it was the Huracan which was able to accelerate into an unassailable lead. There appear to be two key reasons for this. First, the Performante puts its power to the ground more effectively than the SV and suffers less wheelspin. In addition, it is fitted with a dual-clutch transmission that changes through the gears much faster than the Aventador’s ‘box.

The final two tests included a series of rolling drag races and a braking test. Did the top dog in Lambo’s stable manage to subdue its smaller sibling? Well…
