With Day 2 of racing in the books, HOT ROD Drag Week 2019 competitors packed up and hit the road for Atco Dragway in New Jersey. It was a relatively short 156-mile drive drive from Cecil County Dragway in Westminster, Maryland, to Atco, and the path took us northeasterly through Pennsylvania on Highway 1, passing around the north side of Philadelphia. Progress ground to a halt once we hit the Interstates 276 and 95 during rush hour on the outskirts of Philly. Cooling systems and nerves were taxed from that point until the exit to New Jersey Route 43 and U.S. 206, heading south and west through North Hanover Township and Southampton Township, continuing on to Atco. Our first checkpoint at Pete’s Produce Farm in West Chester, Pennsylvania, was a quaint and scenic stop for pictures and delicious produce (the blackberries were particularly good). The second checkpoint was at Pasquale’s 3 Brothers Italian Restaurant, which gave hungry racers the chance to grab a slice or three for dinner. So far, attrition remains uncharacteristically low for Drag Week, with just 33 competitors out of the running, where normally we’d have that many out on Day 1. Hopefully, that’s a trend that continues throughout the week. Stay tuned for race results from Atco, and check out the Day 3 Live Stream.
