Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV And Base Porsche Macan Display Opposite Ends Of Premium SUV Spectrum

If you’re in the market for a premium SUV that turns heads, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Porsche Macan are two very good options and Redline Reviews recently had the chance to test out both.

It’s important to note that this is not an apples-to-apples comparison, as the Macan model tested is the entry-level model while the Stelvio is the high-performance Quadrifoglio. Nonetheless, the review will give anyone in the market for a premium SUV an idea of how the duo cope with everyday driving and which is the better overall package.

The entry-level Porsche Macan can be easy to forget about when you consider just how exciting the Turbo is. Powering the base model is a turbocharged four-cylinder delivering 248 HP between 5000 and 6750 rpm and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque between 1600 and 4500 rpm.

Evidently, one doesn’t buy the base Macan looking to race sports cars off the lights, but it’s certainly fast enough for most occasions. By comparison, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is another different beast altogether. It utilizes a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine with 503 HP and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque and can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds.

The interiors of the two are drastically different. The cabin of the Alfa Romeo isn’t of the same quality, and the Porsche Macan, and the reviewer notes that it had a number of annoying squeaks and rattles.

Although the two are, in these specs, far from direct rivals, the question remains: which is the best overall package?
