Genesis broke the rules when it came to putting the G90 through a mid-cycle facelift by going above any beyond anything we expected. The entire exterior has been revamped from the nose to the boot, with the only panels left untouched being the doors and the roof – everything else is new. The headlights and taillights are now much sleeker than before, helping the G90 drop the last bit of its 90s-era econo-box DNA, while the hood, fenders, and front and rear fascias have all been reworked to look not only more modern but more luxurious.
As far as drivetrain and performance goes, there’s nothing to really write home about. Genesis engineers spent so much time working on the outside that there was no time to do anything under the hood. So, for 2020, the same 3.3-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 carry over. With the former, the G90 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque while the V-8 pumps out 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The V-8 actually sounds like a decent performer, but tests have shown that the V-6 model is actually just as fast to 60 mph as the V-8 while be more efficient in the fuel department. To read more about that, though, you’ll need to check out my full review on the 2020 Genesis G90. if you want to know the details on that.
As far as the interior of the 2020 Genesis G90 is concerned, you’ll be surprised to hear that there’s actually some pretty important updates. That is especially true once you look inside and notice what appears to be the same exact cabin as that of the current model. That’s because Genesis didn’t update the interior physically – it brought new technology into the mix. The infotainment system now offers touchscreen controls and a new user interface while OTA updates will keep the navigation system up to date with the latest maps. Active noise cancellation has also been added to help reduce road noise and other noise pollution inside that cabin which should, in coordination with the adaptive suspension system, improve the overall quality of cabin life significantly.
