Is Bigger Better When It Comes To Wheel Sizes Of A Performance Car Like Audi’s New RS6 Avant?

If you thought that big wheels are useless, as the only thing they do is change the way a car looks, possibly even making it slower, then this video is about to change your perception, as it shows the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant put through a couple of tests on factory 21- and 22-inch rims.

Put together by AutoBildSportsCars, the clip starts with a straight-line acceleration, which reveals the difference between the two sets of wheels, wrapped in 275/35R21 Hankook Ventus S1 Evo and 285/30R22 Pirelli P Zero tires, from 0-62, 0-124 and 0-155 mph (0-100 / 0-200 / 0-250 km/h respectively).

Don’t go scrolling down yet, because the best is yet to come. In the second test, the driver performed a few fast laps of the Lausitzring, a racetrack located in northeast Germany, with the same goal in mind: seeing the difference between the two sets of wheels.

So, which one is the better choice? You can get to that in a moment in the video that follows, but first let’s remind ourselves about the performance of the new RS6 Avant, which officially does the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and can keep going all the way up to 190 mph (305 km/h).

It packs a V8 engine, with 4.0 liters in displacement and two turbochargers, as well as a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which results in 592 HP (600 PS / 441 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque channeled to the quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Audi Sport’s challenger to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG E63 and Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo is about to launch in the States, and it’s listed with an MSRP of $109,000, or $2,750 less than its rival from Affalterbach.
