How to calculate SGPA in SASTRA

The IAA, which starts on September 12, has to cope with cancellations by many manufacturers. In view of the large number of new models and studies, the fair should still be as exciting as ever.

Traditionally, almost all well-known car manufacturers were represented at the IAA auto show in Frankfurt. But the new edition, which will take place from September 12 to 22, has been rejected by more than a dozen brands. This time it is mainly the German manufacturers who will ignite a large and spectacular fireworks display of new products. Here is an overview from A to Z.


Audi has new model variants, facelifts and sports versions in its luggage. The RS 6 has a particularly muscular appearance, which should be faster than ever thanks to a V8 engine that is presumably around 600 hp. The performance offensive is flanked by new editions of the S6 and S7, which in future will still produce 257 kW / 349 hp exclusively with diesel power. In addition, the Ingolstadt-based company will present two derivatives of the existing model series: The new Q3 will be given a coupé variant with a sloping rear as a sister model, which will largely correspond to the standard Q3 in terms of technology. In addition, Audi is expanding the A1 small car series to include a raised version with Citycarver added to the name, which is intended to convey a bit of SUV flair with a more robust styling. Finally, some facelifts will be presented at the Audi booth. Fresh cell treatments are available for the Q7, A4 Avant and A5.


The Munich carmaker BMW will present two important volume models, each in new editions. The third generation of the compact model 1 Series is celebrating its premiere at the trade fair. This does a lot differently than its predecessor. Among other things, the new edition was put on a front instead of the traditional rear-drive platform. In addition, the golf opponents, which can already be ordered at prices starting at around 28,000 euros, will only be available with four entry doors.

Also new is the 3 Series Touring, which in future will offer a variable trunk with a capacity of 500 to 1,500 liters. The prices are also already known: It starts at 39,400 euros. The sporting highlight will be the M8, which in its most powerful version will tickle more than 600 hp from a double-charged V8 petrol engine. BMW is also showing the X6, which will be launched in Germany in November 2019 at prices from 75,500 euros. The all-wheel drive giant with a coupe roof has grown to 4.94 in length and 2.0 meters in width. The power spectrum of the diesel and gasoline engines ranges from 195 kW / 265 PS to 390 kW / 530 PS.


The Chinese want to present their luxury Stromer "M-Byte" at the fair. The electric SUV should also be available in Europe and, in addition to the electric drive, stand out with a gigantic display in the cockpit, next to which even Tesla's display looks tiny. Byton competes in China with the manufacturer Nio, among others, which has already launched its first e-SUV called ES8.


It is also going to be sporty at Ford. Among other things, the Cologne-based company is showing the Focus ST, which mobilizes 206 kW / 280 PS in the petrol version at prices from around 33,000 euros. More important, however, is the puma, which is a 4.19 meter long, high-legged Fiesta derivative. As a special feature, it offers a new type of trunk concept with a storage box under the actual cargo space. When it comes to propulsion, the Puma initially relies on the three-cylinder petrol engine from the Fiesta with up to 114 kW / 155 PS. The new edition of the compact SUV Kuga looks almost like an XL version of the Puma. The third generation is expected to come onto the market in Germany at the beginning of 2020 at prices starting at around 25,000 euros.


Honda alone will be holding the Japanese flag at the IAA. The most important novelty is the Honda E, a purely electrically powered small car with a charming retro aura and a cockpit decorated with many displays. The Mini, which will be available in 2020, should have 110 kW / 150 PS and a range of 200 kilometers. The price should start at probably 35,000 euros.


Hyundai is the only major Asian manufacturer with its own booth, where there is a lot to discover. This includes, among other things, the new edition of the miniature car model i10, which visually has changed from a cute city flea to a small muscle pack. There are also new little helpers such as the emergency brake assistant, which also reacts to pedestrians, as well as attention, lane keeping or high beam assistant. The Koreans are also showing the new Kona Hybrid, which offers an efficient drive and a high level of equipment at prices starting at around 27,000 euros. A new racing car from Hyundai, with which the group wants to open a new chapter in its motorsport division, is even powered exclusively by electricity. A special version of the compact sports car i30N may also be unveiled.


Hyundai's sister brand Kia will not have its own stand in the IAA halls. However, you want to present yourself with off-roaders in the outdoor area. This should also include the new Xceed, which is a mixture between a hatchback sedan with sporty coupé ambitions and a classic, taller SUV. The new one is 4.2 centimeters higher than the Ceed sedan and has all sorts of SUV attributes.

Land Rover

A highly anticipated novelty from Land Rover is the all-new Defender. Like its predecessor, this should be characterized by a particularly high level of terrain competence, but at the same time be technically and visually much more modern than before. However, details have not yet been revealed. In March 2020, the British want to get started with the Defender 110.


Although the PSA Group will stay away from the IAA, PSA subsidiary Opel will be able to present its innovations at its in-house exhibition. This includes the revamped Astra, for which there will be three petrol and two diesels with a displacement of 1.2 to 1.5 liters and a power range from 77 kW / 105 PS to 107 kW / 145 PS. More important, however, is the new edition of the Corsa, which is based on the PSA platform. This makes the small car around 100 kilos lighter and weighs less than a ton in the basic version. The 4.06-long vehicle comes with a high-quality interior and, on request, a 10-inch display, matrix LED headlights and an eight-speed automatic.

The prices for the Corsa start at 13,990 euros. At around 30,000 euros, the Corsa-e will be significantly more expensive. The Stromer, which will be available at the beginning of 2020, has an output of 100 kW / 136 PS and 260 Nm of torque, and its 50 kWh battery enables a range of up to 330 kilometers (according to WLTP). The Rüsselsheim-based company also has the Grandland X Hybrid4 at its side. The first plug-in hybrid from the Opel brand combines a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine (147 kW / 200 PS) with two electric motors (80 kW / 109 PS each), which together give a system output of an impressive 300 PS bring. The Opel SUV, which costs almost 50,000 euros, can drive up to 52 kilometers in all-electric mode.

Mercedes Benz

At Mercedes, some innovations will celebrate their premiere on the current compact model series platform. With the GLB, Mercedes is providing a spacious sister model to its compact SUV GLA. Compared to the GLA, which is on the same technology platform, the GLB is a good 20 centimeters longer at 4.63 meters. On the drive side, there will be the common engines of the Mercedes compact class, i.e. petrol and diesel in the power range between 163 and 208 hp. The 45 AMG version CLA Shooting Brake and A-Class, which will be available with 310 kW / 421 hp at the end of 2019, will be more than twice as powerful. The revamped GLC 43 AMG will also be more powerful than ever, namely with 287 kW / 390 PS. Other possible candidates for a trade fair appearance at the IAA are the lifted GLE Coupé, a battery-electric version of the V-Class called EQV and the final version of the over 1,000 hp Hypercar One from Mercedes-AMG.


At the IAA, the British BMW subsidiary is showing its first serious electric car, the Mini Cooper SE. Some of the technology comes from the i3, the torque of the electric motor, in conjunction with the dynamic chassis, should ensure special driving pleasure. The city runabout is said to have 184 hp and a 33 kWh battery.


For Porsche, too, the IAA 2019 marks the dawn of e-mobility. The highlight of this realignment is the presentation of the Taycan. It is the first car from the German premium manufacturer built from the ground up for e-mobility, which should offer the potential to make Tesla look old. The four-seater should offer around 600 hp and a range of 500 kilometers. The prices of the high-performance electric vehicle available at the beginning of 2020 are likely to be in the six figures.


The Spaniards have announced a concept vehicle from their sporty sub-brand Cupra. The purely electrically powered vehicle is said to be a symbiosis of a performance SUV and a sports coupé. In addition, the future exclusively electrically powered version of the Mii microcar, which has been revised in detail and which is to offer a range of 260 kilometers, will be on display.


Among other things, the Czechs have the lifted Superb with them in their IAA luggage, which will again be available in a Scout version in the future and also in a plug-in hybrid version at the beginning of 2020. The new Citigo-e even only drives electrically, up to 265 kilometers, and like its sister models Mii and Up will no longer be offered with a combustion engine in the future.


Instead of the expected premiere of the eighth Golf generation, VW will instead present the series version of the all-electric ID.3 at the IAA. The compact model with a van-like silhouette will mark the Group's departure into electric mobility, to which VW has committed itself in a particularly consistent manner. The ID.3, which should offer ranges of 330 to 550 kilometers, will be followed by a large number of technically related derivatives in the coming years. In addition, VW will present the new E-Up, which, like the Seat Mii, will offer a range of 260 kilometers in the future. Another trade fair highlight from the Wolfsburg-based company is the small SUV T-Roc in a convertible version. Like the Golf Cabriolet in the past, it will have a classic fabric roof installed at the Osnabrück site.
