You deserve the blogging
The 4 Only Ways To Really Make Money From Your Blog
We bloggers are all morons, aren't we?
For the rest of the world ... blogging is just a joke.
It's not a real job. You can't make money with it. Let alone change the world.
Blogging is just a trend. A hobby. Not more.
OK. Wait. Sometimes these evil tongues are right.
But let me tell you more
Why you can't make money with “blogging”
With your blog per se you can't make any money.
I've already discussed it in detail here. “Earning money with blogs” is not a business model.
But you can do wonderfully around your blog around build a business. This is what a blog is made for.
Your blog then serves just as a marketing tool and hub. The business side, which is where you make the real money, has little to do with your blog.
According to the well-known AIDA formula, you generate attention and keep interest with your blog. But you achieve the desires and the action elsewhere.
A good example is the monkey blog itself.
It is the center of all activity. But around there’s the monkey book and the monkey clan. These are the business units. The blog only inspires these units.
That said, there are still plenty of blogs that monetize themselves with advertisements. So let's take a look at why advertising banners are useless.
Why advertising banners don't work
This is really the worst way to make money on a blog.
It's just a lot smarter, his Expertise, and do not sell the attention.
Most of all, banner ads are just so bad because you need tons of traffic. And getting loads of traffic is a) difficult and b) you focus too much on yourself ... and do everything with it you earn more.
In doing so, you forget the most important person: your reader and potential customers!
And let's be honest. Banners make for a mega bad user experience. I hate those online magazines where the whole background is a banner ad. And if you accidentally click, you end up somewhere else.
Is there anything more annoying than that?
Here, smart bloggers have recognized that there is a much more lucrative way - namely to solve real problems from real people.
Not only will you make more money with it, but you will also make the world a better place. And I mean hey what more do you want?
If you have internalized this mindset, then you set the prerequisite to monthly Not 10 €, but 1,000 € or 10,000 € with your blog.
When I started this type of blogging in 2012, I was pretty much the only one. Meanwhile, I see more and more bloggers who focus on the following four ways.
1. Advice and service
$ 431 billion. That's how big the consulting industry is. And we smart bloggers are all kind of consultants.
That's reason enough to get involved in this industry, isn't it?
So are you in the personal development niche? Then offer coaching. Are you in the web design niche? Then offer web design services.
I think the concept of advice and service is so cool because you right away can start with. Make a public offer on your blog and bang ... you're in the market!
Another advantage is that over time you will see certain patterns. You then know exactly which problems are again and again occur. For this you can z. B. create your own product perfectly.
It's nothing for me. Before starting the monkey blog, I was a freelance web designer and just didn't feel like it anymore. What particularly appeals to me is the scalability of digital products. I find that exciting.
But many people value direct exchange. There is a place for everyone. And if you want advice and service, go ahead!
Example: My good colleague Walter Epp from Schreibsuchti offers 1-to-1 coaching and demands a 3-digit hourly rate for it. Is working.
2. Affiliate Marketing
With affiliate marketing, you save yourself the need to create a product, because you advertise a product here and receive a commission for it.
It is a great way to e.g. B. to test whether your audience has a need for such a product.
Because digital products have a high profit margin, the average commission is 50%. That's what makes them so interesting.
But physical products also make sense - especially when I think of Amazon's partner program. You can really use anything from books to kitchen knives everything apply.
As long as you create high-quality articles according to the monkey motto and focus on your tribe, you can wonderfully monetize your blog with affiliate marketing.
Unfortunately for me it was the case that there were no suitable products at the time. I would have really wished for something like that back then. That's why I'm now offering affiliate programs so that others can do better.
Ben Paul from Anti-Uni and Katharina Lewald from Blogging for Smart Women are good examples. We all earn from a sale. Win win.
And because it fits so nicely: Many people stick to the banner idea and just slap a banner and leave an affiliate link. That's okay. But it's even better if you deliver additional content. Create e.g. B. an honest experience report or explain the advantages for your audience again on a separate landing page.
Example: My mastermind colleague Mark Maslow from MarathonFitness generates part of his sales with affiliate marketing.
3. Own products
Own products are the most interesting. Why? Because that is where the profit margin is highest. Actually logical, right?
In principle, your own products can be anything. It starts with digital products like ...
- Video courses
- Membership Pages
... and ends with "physical" products like seminars or really physical products.
As I said at the beginning, you sell yours here own Expertise.
If you create high quality content regularly and for free, then some of your audience will buy your paid content as well.
The whole thing also supports the point that through blogging you have a solid relationship with your subscribers and your product your Comes home. These are wonderful conditions for selling.
I'm still annoyed that I didn't launch my monkey book earlier. That's why I advise you to start your own product as early as possible.
Example: I offer an e-book with my monkey book and a membership site with my monkey clan. Markus Cerenak, on the other hand, offers z. B. offers on-site seminars with his master class.
4. Sell entire blog
Many people forget this point.
Because in the beginning your blog is just an empty shell. You then have to diligently fill this with high-quality content.
Over time, your content, your subscribers, your search engine rankings, and your brand will be worth a lot:
Your blog will be a real one asset.
And other companies would be interested in buying it.
That was also the reason why I named this blog "affenblog". First of all, "Vladislav Melnik" is too complicated. Second, too tied to my person. But with “affenblog” I still have the option of selling the blog at some point. Even if I don't intend to! 😉
Example: Brian Clark from Copyblogger has received at least one offer to sell his blog for a seven-figure sum. The interesting thing is that the buyer just Wanted the blog and not the business units.
But Brian refused. He knows that there is more to it in the long term and that the blog is the most important part of the overall marketing model. Just like me.
Even if the rest of the world thinks we're all idiots and blogging is just a joke, the topic should not be underestimated.
Blogging is not a trend. It's a serious business model.
As a rule of thumb you can say: If you want to specialize in affiliate marketing, you need more visitors. With services and own products, the profit margin is so high that less traffic is sufficient.
That is generally the nice thing about this business model. You do not need lots Visitor. You just need that right.
But no matter which of the four paths you choose, focus primarily on your tribe. Then you can always ask them and see what kind of products they want.
